Medicare supplements
or MediGap plans work with your original Medicare Part A & B.
The plans A- L are the same with every carrier. The only difference between plan
F from one carrier to another is the monthly premium and the quality of the insurance
company. All benefits are the same. They are regulated and standardized by the
government. These plans DO NOT include part D drug plans. Part D drug plans can
be purchased on a stand alone basis from the insurance carrier of your choice.
Enrollment periods DO NOT apply.
Medicare Advantage (MA or MAPD)
There are three types of Medicare Advantage plans, Health Maintenance Organization
(HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and Private Fee For Service ( PFFS)
. These plans are administered by private insurance companies and are subsidized
by the federal government. They are the most affordable plans with many having
a $ 0.00 monthly premium. These plans may include a Part D drug plan. They generally
have copays for most services. Enrollment periods apply for MA and MAPD plans.
